The official opening of the fair, conferences, and workshops – the first day of SAWO is now behind us!

A celebration of safety

The SAWO Trade Fair is open! It’s the perfect place and time to exchange experiences and inspiration. On the first day, a conference organized by the National Labour Inspectorate and the District Labour Inspectorate in Poznań took place: Vision ZERO – from awareness to action. How to build employee engagement in improving working conditions?

Cooperation, dialogue, and commitment are the foundation of a safe working environment. For years, the National Labour Inspectorate has been taking action to promote best practices, education, and support for employers and employees in building high standards of occupational health and safety.

Marcin Stanecki, the Chief Labour Inspector, outlined the mission of the National Labour Inspectorate during the opening of the conference. This year, conferences are being held in every district. Poznań is the second district in the series. Each conference focuses on different issues. Sixteen districts mean sixteen different observations, insights, and solutions for combating workplace accidents in our country.

“Vision ZERO is a concept that has the characteristics of a workplace philosophy. It goes beyond machine guards or certified helmets. We believe that genuine and lasting employee engagement arises only where the following pillars are harmoniously integrated: technical safety, physical health, and psychosocial well-being,” emphasized the Chief Labour Inspector.

Discussions and networking

The next items on the agenda were two thematic panels: FIRST AID and ERGONOMICS, featuring experts Karol Bączkowski, Tomasz Kutycki, Adrian Zadorecki, Mirela Motyka, as well as Dariusz Tokarczyk, Maciej Żłobiński, Mirosław Bzura, and Barbara Tokarczyk. The discussions were moderated by Artur Lipowicz.

During the first day, a strong Italian accent was clearly visible. Confindustria Polonia organized an Italian-style networking meeting aimed at inaugurating and presenting the “Safety in Action” project, which includes a series of events in various cities across Poland, dedicated to the key area of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Safety culture

The conference and workshops organized by the Safety Culture Foundation were further events designed to familiarize participants with proven international approaches to workplace safety, as well as how neuroscience helps shape safe behaviors and better decision-making in the workplace.

During the event, the most common mistakes and pitfalls in safety management, as well as current challenges, were presented. There was also a discussion featuring experts and business leaders who shared their experiences and proven solutions. The “Faces of Safety” awards were also presented, honoring individuals who are truly transforming the approach to safety in Poland.

In turn, the workshop “Emotional support as an element of building a safety culture” was a training session aimed at individuals with experience in accident situations, those working in post-accident teams, or those who want to consciously build a culture of safety and support.

Expert presentations

The conference “Practical workshops on the selection of personal protective equipment and measures” was opened by Dr. Eng. Józef Witczak – President of the Main Board of OSPS BHP. The importance of using personal protective equipment in protecting health was discussed, followed by presentations on: Identification of hazards in the work environment, Occupational risk assessment, and The importance of measuring harmful factors in the work environment to confirm hazards.
